Pet Mayor Election

Not to miss the excitement surrounding the national election campaigns, the Village of Brighton is announcing a primary to select its first Pet Mayor.  That’s right!  Not to be outdone by towns in California and Vermont who have elected a dog and a goat, we can elect the most popular pet in Brighton as our Official Pet Mayor.
Here’s how it will work. Residents of Brighton and Brighton Township may nominate their favorite pet. Nominations will be reviewed by the Brighton Economic Development Committee (EDC). Three pets will be selected by committee for a popular runoff election beginning in early March. All residents of Brighton and Brighton Township will be eligible to cast a ballot. The winner of the election will be declared the Official Pet Mayor of Brighton for 2020 with all honors and privileges due the position. We hope you join the fun in selecting Brighton’s Pet Mayor!

The rules are as follow:

1. All nominations to be submitted via the Village of Brighton Facebook Page , Village of Brighton Website https://www.brightonil.com, by Mail (PO Box 458 Brighton, IL 62012) or Hand Delivery to the Village Clerk at the Village Hall 206 S. Main St. Brighton, IL 62012 ​ON OR BEFORE FEBRUARY 29, 2020.
2. Nominations shall include the pet’s name and photo, owner's name and a statement of 25 words or less why their pet deserves to be Pet Mayor.
3. All nominees must reside in the Village of Brighton or Brighton Township.
4. Nominees may include any animal except insects, snakes, reptiles or poultry.
5. The decisions of EDC shall be final.
6. Winner will be announced On March 17, 2020!
